What is Countertop Refinishing?

Countertop refinishing is the process of resurfacing and restoring existing countertops, where they are located in the home, with premium durable coatings. These coatings are professionally engineered to produce a “like new” finish, in any solid color shade or faux stone material. Minor damage such as chipping can be fixed before refinishing with polyester blending and filling putty so that the completed projects looks brand new.

All types of countertops can be refinished in bathrooms and kitchens, including: tile, laminate, Corian, Formica, Wilsonart, quartz, granite, concrete, marble, resin and porcelain. The average project will usually take two days and involves a process that is nearly identical to bathtub refinishing.

  • First, the existing surface is either sanded or etched to create a porous surface to promote mechanical bonding of the primer.
  • Next, a durable waterproof epoxy primer is applied to the prepared surface. This primer is also a specially formulated base coat, specifically designed to bring out the color and vibrancy of the acrylic urethane coating.
  • Next, we coat the surface by spraying 24-hour cure urethane coating with our professional HVLP compliant spray system. We use an air turbine to generate the pressure needed to run the spray system. Top coats include pigmented coatings for solid colors and Stone-Fleck Green Line Ultra paints which are specially engineered to produce a faux stone finish.
  • Finally, the countertops receive multiple coats of Stone Guard clear acrylic polyurethane to seal and enhance the color. The new countertop is completely dry and ready for use within 24 hours
